Well-loved for its collection of large mammals, the 1,260-square-mile Amboseli National Park is one of the most visited preserves in Kenya, behind only Lake Nakuru National Park and Masai Mara National Reserve in terms of annual visits.

The sanctuary encompasses diverse environs, ranging from semiarid plains to wetlands. While on the lookout for packs of elephants, cheetahs, lions and baboons trekking grassy plains for water and food, travelers can catch views of Mount Kilimanjaro’s towering white summit. Rising more than 19,000 feet above the habitat, this peak in neighboring Tanzania is the continent’s tallest mountain.
